The Art of Bonsai, asian origin, is only at early beginning in Burkina Faso. It's on the
impulse of Bernard Decaudin, a enthusiated Bonsai-Ka, that it started in the respect
of the two cultures, asian and african ones |
Be a Bonsai-ka in Burkina Faso !
In this country, of nothing grow or evrything grow with an exceptional speed, the difference
between these extremes is water or not water.
It’s easy to achive, warm exists plus water (frequent and controled ones) and you will get
marvellous trees but you must completely forget conifers, apple trees...
As example a ficus layer of 2 or 3 cm of diameter will get roots in 2 or 3 weeks. A small
Bougainvillea plant potted in a culture pot early in the rain saison will be in few months a 1 or 1.5
meter height tree with a trunc diameter of 1 or 2 cm, you can imagine the work you can achive by
doing good strucutre pruning.
An other possibility allowed by the fast growing is working on roots, doing some exposed roots
trees by reducing soil level (you can see example on following page)
Which ones and how to get Bonsai in the Burkina Faso
Only local spieces, going from mediterranean species to sub tropical ones . The major point to
manage is watering which is function of species and season. During dry season, you must
sometimes water two times a day, and during rain saison you must protect trees of over rain.
An other problem is to find locally bonsai pots, it’s totally impossible at that time and Bernard
Decaudin collection is in local poteries, not fully in line with bonsai requirements, but you must do
with existing ! and sometimes in paticular with local species the result is homogeneous and
acceptable.
